Bobby Egan

Bobby Egan is originally from Cleveland, Ohio where he was raised on the banks of Lake Erie. One member of a sprawling and loving Irish American family, he witnessed firsthand the opioid epidemic rage through his community, claiming the lives of so many dear friends and community members. Bobby felt driven to help people and so he worked in Emergency Medicine in Cleveland. An avid hiker, adventurer and explorer, Bobby felt pulled out west and joined the Santa Fe County Fire Department as a paramedic in 2010. After 7 years working in Northern New Mexico he transferred to the Bernalillo County Fire Department in 2016 where he works currently as a Lieutenant/Paramedic. 

 

Bobby personally has felt the toll of sleepless nights and vicarious trauma from the many difficult calls he has run while working in the fire service.  As he always sought refuge in the wilderness, Bobby was drawn to look at alternative and natural forms of healing, methods of healing that did not carry the heavy toll of so many lives lost to addiction and death that pharmaceuticals do. He worked for three years on a committee for the Union to get cannabis approved as off-duty medicine for fellow firefighters. In 2025 Bobby was a part of the historic team to pass the groundbreaking decision allowing cannabis use for all Bernalillo County employees off duty. In 2026 Bobby expanded his exploration of alternative methods of healing by participating in a psychedelic assisted retreat for first responders. He found the medicine and the community to be a profound part of his personal healing journey.

 

Bobby continues to explore and advocate to help struggling firefighters heal through his work with the Bernalillo County Fire Department Union and with Firefighters for Plant Medicine.
