Our Story.

Firefighters for Plant Medicine is a group of firefighters and allies who are passionate about gaining access to legal plant medicine for all first responders. FFPM board members were instrumental in a Bernalillo County drug policy change that now allows firefighters to access off-duty cannabis without fear of adverse employment actions, unless impaired.

This policy change has positively changed the lives of numerous country firefighters. Firefighters are telling us that they are sleeping better, drinking less alcohol and using fewer prescription medications. They are also having less anxiety and other PTSD symptoms. Overall, firefighters are reporting that they generally feel better and are more present at home.

Not only do we want to help other fire departments with medical cannabis access, we want to help first responders have affordable access to the NMDOH psilocybin therapy program. The FDA calls psilocybin a breakthrough therapy. These two plant medicines can help first responders be mentally and physically healthier. By adding these tools to our mental healthcare toolkit, we can help firefighters and their families live happier, healthier lives. This directly helps the communities they serve, on and off the job.
